We are Emily and George! Both in our early 30's, based on the island of Jersey, Channel Islands, and proud new owners of a 42ft sailboat. Our plan is to slowly sail around the world, bit by bit, whilst returning to Jersey in the summers to earn some more money to put towards the next leg! Our blog hopes to help you follow our adventure and introduce you to marine conservation projects around the world and highlight people we meet along the way that have a passion for the ocean.
About George.
George left school at the age of 16 and headed straight into the sailing world. Working on numerous yachts from monohulls, catamarans and classic wooden yachts. After 50,000 sea miles, achieving his RYA Yacht Master and completing the Atlantic crossing 9 times, George now helps with yacht deliveries for 5West. George currently runs two seasonal businesses in Jersey, Sunnyside Deckchairs, a beach concession in St Brelade's Bay and Fireside Events, an outdoor event catering company. Check them both out on Instagram and definitely head down to the bay if you're in Jersey during the summer!
About Emily.
Emily gave up a career in interior architecture and design to follow her passion in marine conservation. She made a connection with Jersey Marine Conservation after donating a percentage of the sales from her sustainable, handmade sea glass jewellery. She has since volunteered and worked as their science and education officer for the last two years whilst studying for a MSc in Island Biodiversity and Conservation, which she recently completed, with distinction. Her thesis focused on mooring damage to seagrass sediments, which has helped support the need for an environmentally friendly system in Jersey!
